Quonochontaug Historical Society
The Quonochontaug Historical Society’s Archival and Research Center is open.
You may recall that our growing collection had been stored for years in a combination of Anne and Tom Doyle’s basement and a local storage unit while the QHS board worked to find a more permanent archive facility. QHS now has hundreds of photos, postcards, videos, family artifacts, newspaper articles, old maps, letters and written personal stories. In addition, you can now choose to listen to any of our over 70 oral histories.
We have built-out a 400 sq.ft. climate-controlled, secure storage space in the lower level of the Quonochontaug Grange. This provides for the storage and preservation of the Society's collections and a workspace for the Society’s volunteers. The Archival Center houses our computer, printer, and scanner. It is a space for individuals to do research on the Society’s collections using the PastPerfect software.
Our Archival Center is now available by appointment. To schedule an appointment, please email William Steinman, QHS Archivist at archivist@quonochontaughistoricalsociety.org or contact Joan Gordon of the Preservation Committee at (401-322-0924).
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many donors who made this Center possible.
