Quonochontaug Historical Society

Everyone in our community has a “Quonnie Story” to call his/her own.  If you have a Quonnie story to tell, please let us hear from you; and we may publish it in this section of our website.  Send your written story to QHS, P.O. Box 46, Charlestown, RI or send it to our email address: info@quonochontaughistoricalsociety.org.

Ruth Schafer Hopkinson wrote our first two stories.  Ruth has a passion for writing and for Quonnie.  She wrote these essays many years ago.

Dave Smith , a QHS member, has allowed us to share with you his Grandmother's diary from her early days living in the Quonnie old breachway area.  It is fascinating.  Hope you take a look at it.  Thank you, Dave, for sharing your own family Quonnie history. The link to the diary is:  http://5thirdstreet.com/G2Diary/

Mitchell Maloof is the grandson of Donna and Steve Jordan of West Beach, Quonochontaug.  Mitch is a 16 year-old  student at Moses Brown and has spent many years in Quonnie during the summer months.  He chose to research and then write about Quonochontaug for his class paper this past year.  As you read, you will understand the impact that Quonnie has had on his life.

Marilyn Fisher McConihay has written her own story about her Quonnie memories and you may read it by clicking on “Marilyn Fisher McConihay Stories” below.
